The Munich-based musician and composer, who studied folk music at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München (University of Music and Performing Arts Munich), is dedicated to the Styrian accordion, a special type of diatonic accordion deeply rooted in the traditional music of the alpine regions of Germany, Austria and Slovenia.
Matthias Pürner takes these roots as a starting point to explore different musical paths and thus expresses an unexpected signature-style for this instrument through his compositions. While integrating elements of contemporary music, he also draws inspiration from the past, especially by rearranging classical, baroque music for his instrument.
Thursday Aug. 24, 2023 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Goethe-Institut Montreal, 1626 boul. St-Laurent.
Admission is free.
Matthias Pürner will also perform during the Carrefour mondial de l’accordéon, which takes place in Montmagny (Quebec) from September 1 to 3.
